Gabbycat At the end of September 2008, she developed a little limp favoring her left front leg. A couple weeks later, she jumped off the bed and went crashing into the hamper. The poor thing was crying in pain all morning. We were able to take her to the vet at lunch time, and the x-rays scared us. The doctors thought she had bone cancer and didn’t know how bad it might be, and we starting considering the worst. After a couple weeks of waiting for radiologists to return from a national conference and finally review her x-rays, it was confirmed that she had osteosarcoma in her left elbow. Our next step was to take her in for more x-rays to see if the cancer had spread. Fortunately, it hadn’t. Unfortunately, the solution was for Gabbers to have her leg amputated. Which, alas, is what we did. We now have a tripod kitty. She is still adventurous, and almost as sure footed. We’re glad that she doesn’t hate us after all that. We can’t imagine going to sleep and waking up with a limb missing. If only we could have told her what was going to happen. She’s developing a new gait,
and you can hear her bounding around the wood floor. And she’s still just as feisty as ever!
